Tegucigalpa -
Alleged drug dealers who were travelling on
a Venezuelan airplane landed early morning
in Olancho, eastern Honduras, set fire to
the plane and fled, local authorities
reported.
The head of the police in Olancho, deputy
commissioner German Palma, said that the
airplane, a white Cessna with register
number HK4227-G, engine 762667, landed near
the municipality of San Francisco de
Becerra, 155 miles northeast of Tegucigalpa,
AFP reported.
"It is a small plane that must have
transported drug or other illegal substance,
but it could not carry more than 500 kg,"
the enforcement officer said to local radios
in the area where the airplane was found.
On May 10, another Venezuelan airplane
crashed in Utila, Bay Islands, about 375 km
north of Tegucigalpa. The pilot died and two
other members of the crew were injured. The
three people were Colombian nationals.
