Panama's April National Urban CPI Rises 0.4%
Panama's consumer price index in the
national urban areas rose 0.4% in April, the
Statistics and Census office said Friday.
Prices for education-related goods and
services rose 3%, while transportation costs
rose 1.5% in April, it said.
In the 12-month period through April,
consumer prices rose 3.7%, down from 6.8% in
the full 2008.
Kathryn Rooney, a market analyst with
Miami-based investment bank Bulltick, said
falling oil and food prices will drag
inflation to 2.8% in 2009.
Inflation in 2008 was the highest since the
office started to gauge prices in the
national urban areas in 2002.
Prior to 2002, the Statistics and Census
Department measured inflation only in the
urban areas of the Panama City and San
Miguelito districts.
