Argentine Movements Support Government

Buenos Aires -  Argentina's recently created Central de Movimientos Populares (CMP) offered on Wednesday its full support to the government for the legislative elections of June 28.

In a press conference, the CMP led by Luis D Elia, from Federacion Tierra y Vivienda (FTV), grouping Peronismo Militante, 26 de Julio, Octubres, Movimiento 6 de Julio, Agrupacion Rodolfo Walsh and Segundo Centenario, among others, said their fate depends on the polls.

There are two projects at stake, that of the opposition to rule for 10 million citizens and that of President Cristina Fernandez to rule for the 40 million Argentineans, the social leaders said in a communiqué.

D Elia said the decision to back the current process, started by the government of Nestor Kirchner in May 2003, is to contribute to attempting to reach the least favored sectors and mobilize efforts made by the executive to open spaces for popular and social movements.

He announced that a large march will be staged on Thursday from the Liniers neighborhood, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, to the Plaza de Mayo, for which they are calling on not only the CMP, but all good-willed Argentineans to participate.
