United Nations - The International
Organization for Migrations (IOM)
recommended Honduran political and judicial
authorities reinforce the fight against
human trafficking.
In a study on human trafficking conducted in
Central America, IOM stressed the importance
of reinforcing women protection, since they
are one of the most vulnerable parts of the
population.
IOM also reported that despite the Honduran
government having adopted serious measures
to fight human trafficking, it is still
mainly minors who are forced into
prostitution, and the trade of young women
is still not a priority issue and should be
met with specific policies, IOM indicated.
IOM stated that the problem constitutes a
serious violation of human rights, and that
it takes place systematically and in
silence, with no policies to back the
victims. |
