Santiago de Chile - A position paper and
demand for change of the Political
Constitution will be issued in a mass rally
here, announced Arturo Martinez, president
of the Workers United Confederation (CUT).
The union leader announced a march and
concentration today will commemorate
International Workers Day and called on all
Chileans to fight the dictatorship of
Augusto Pinochet and join to change the
Political Constitution to advance democracy.
Martinez told the press that the paper
called Pliego de Chile links labor and
social sections with the demands of workers,
apart from the political chapter.
Martinez will deliver a half hour speech
covering the impact of the economic crisis
in Chile and unemployment and will also
present a petition for national demands to
be signed in the coming weeks by a million
workers.
We will criticize those who arbitrarily
dismiss workers, those who take advantage of
the crisis and will ask the Government to
take measures to protect jobs with more
employment, investing in such a way that the
unemployed have a lay off security that is
worth while," Martinez said.
Police estimate that 15,000 persons will
participate in the demonstration and
announced measures to divert traffic in the
center of Santiago to prevent blocking the
march that was authorized by the capital
authorities. |
