25 Rebels Captured in
Northeast

Colombian rebels from the National
Liberation Army (ELN) have been captured by
police troops in the northeastern province
of Santander, Colombian authorities said on
Monday.
The rebels, members of the Capitan Parmenio
front of the ELN, the second largest
guerilla group in Colombia, were arrested in
a joint operation with the prosecutor's
office, said General Rolando Delgado,
Commander from the Police Number Five
region.
"The operation lasted one year in its
investigation and judicial process, and
today we are presenting the results,"
Delgado said.
The operation, which ended on Monday
morning, led to a dismantlement of the
guerilla's support network.
"We confirmed, based on the information we
have received, that they are totally
weakened... in this way, the Capitan
Parmenio front will no longer exist," the
commander said.
The rebels will be accused of organized
crimes, extortion and rebellion.
