Historian Links in Guatemala
Guatemala - The historian of Havana, Eusebio
Leal noted the links that bond Cuba and
Guatemala since the arrival of several
compatriots during the 19th century.
I pay homage to those of my country who came
to Guatemala, such as Jose Joaquin Palma,
author of the national hymn of that country
and our National Hero, Jose Mart, Leal
expressed at a master conference.
He told Prensa Latina that there was a
strong academic exchange in heritage
conservation between both nations and noted
the work done here to preserve the Maya
cultural centers.
The result of this collaboration, he said,
is his presence in the Seminar Workshop on
Restoration Criteria organized by the
Ministry of Culture and Sports and the
National Direction of the Heritage that is
based in the Ethnology and Archeology
Museum.
Leal explained about the main guidelines of
the restoration of Old Havana included from
the beginning the human element in economic,
archeological and heritage criteria.
If restoration is not applied as a source of
sustainable development for the community,
in makes no sense, he said.
During his conference he covered the history
of the Cuban capital since its foundation,
its period of growth during colonial times
and first half of last century to the past
decades.
This is the third visit of the historian of
Havana to the land of the Quetzal in which
he had the opportunity to tour the cities of
Antigua Guatemala, Quetzaltenango and
Chichicastenango, as well as Lake Atitlan. |
