Panama - The United
Nations Fund for Population Activities in
Latin America and the Caribbean (UNFPA)
inaugurated a regional office in Panama on
Friday, as part of government collaboration
with this organization.
The opening of the new headquarters, in
Ciudad del Saber (City of Knowledge) was
attended by First Lady of the Republic,
Vivian Fernandez de Torrijos, and the Fund
Executive Director Thoraya Ahmed Obaid.
Foreign Minister Ricardo Duran said that
this step contributes to strengthen the work
of UN bodies based in Panama.
Obaid highlighted the "the national
government's commitment to the women, the
children and the disabled and recognized
efforts made by the Foreign Ministry to
establish the regional office."
UNFPA is an international cooperation agency
for development that promotes the right of
every woman, man and child to enjoy a
healthy life, with equal opportunities for
