Montevideo - A new Interconsult survey on
vote intention in Uruguay confirmed on
Monday that Frente Amplio (Broad Front, FA)
and Senador Jose Mujica are the voters'
favorites.
According to the poll, if elections
scheduled for October 25 were held now, the
governing left-wing coalition would get 42
percent of votes, the Blanco or National
Party (PN) would get 37 percent, Colorado
party (PC) merely eight percent, and
Independent Party (PI) little over one
percent.
In this scenario, the election of the new
Uruguayan president would have to be decided
in a second round between the two most voted
candidates, while in the first round none of
the candidates would get half plus one
votes, as established under the
Constitution.
The study signals FA as the main political
force in Montevideo, with 54-percent
electoral backing, followed by PN (25
percent). Outside the capital, the trend is
all the way around: PN leads with 46 percent
and the left has a 31-percent backing.
