Panama - Epidemiology and mental
health experts from 14 Latin American and
European countries are having a three-day
meeting here to discuss climate change,
according to official sources.
Health Ministry officials said the forum is
also aimed at identifying future actions to
counter that problem and to reduce its
influence on people.
The meeting is an initiative to curb climate
change and global warming, caused by human
activities that increase emissions of
greenhouse gases.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has
pointed out that climate change can alter
ecosystems, having a negative impact on
people and even on their very survival.
Participants in the meeting will also debate
the "Context of epidemiology and
environmental health as challenges of the
21st century", "System of risk
surveillance-assessment", "Environmental
justice and social participation" and
"Pollution and climate change: achievements
and challenges".
The meeting is sponsored by the EuroSocial
program, a technical cooperation initiative
between the European Commission and Latin
America.
