San Salvador - The World Trade Union Federation of the Americas sent a message greeting the working people of El Salvador for the victory of the Farabundo Marti National Front for Liberation in last Sunday´s presidential elections.

The message was published in this capital Monday, highlighting the fighting spirit and patriotism of the Salvadoran progressive forces fighting the manipulation, lies and threatening of the opponents.

“It is a great merit that despite the huge media power of the dominant classes, the Salvadoran people has won these elections with the objective to reach a better world for their man, women and children,” said the document.

Ramon Cardona, secretary of the World Trade Union Organization of the Americas, said that the popular victory in El Salvador will contribute to the progress of the will for changes in Latin America to reach social justice.

During his first message to the entire nation president-elect Mauricio Funes called for reconciliation and unity of the whole country.

According to the vote count of 91.7 percent of the votes, Mauricio Funes obtained 51.26 percent of them and the candidate of government party Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA), Rodrigo Avila, obtained 48.74 percent, in already irreversible electoral results.
