Classic
Mexico - Four classified teams, five
eliminated and another seven looking for the
ticket to the following phase is the outlook
now in the 2nd World Baseball Classic,
changing each day until the end of the
initial round, to close this Thursday.
The only group with total definition is
Group A, played in Tokyo, with South Korea
and Japan as classified teams, by that order
and travelling to San Diego, to face the two
best teams of Group B in the second stage.
China obtained its first level victory when
it beat Chinese Taipei, a team leaving
without a victory, although both squads were
eliminated in the Tokyo Dome Stadium.
United States, in Group C, conquered its two
first wins at the Rogers Center of Toronto
matching Canada and Venezuela and assured
its presence at the Dolphin Stadium of
Miami, the same as Puerto Rico, (Group D),
winner over Panama and Holland in the Hiram
Bithorn of San Juan.
Those eliminated so far, besides the Asian
teams, are Panama, Canada and South Africa,
this coming from Group B, with two defeats
by Cuba and Mexico in the Foro Sol Stadium
in Mexico City.
Cuba and Australia (Group B) will define
which team will be classified among them,
and this team will go to the Petco Park of
San Diego, California, while the loser will
still have the opportunity to face Mexico
Wednesday at the Foro Sol Stadium in search
of the second ticket.
Venezuela, apparently with more history and
skill, willget ready to meet Italy in the
next hours, to define the team to accompany
the US to the following round.
Something similar will happen in Group D, in
the Hiram Bithorn, with the Dominican
Republic, now recovered from the initial
defeat before Holland, with a victory
against Panama, matching the representation
of Holland to get the ticket to the next
stage, accompanying Puerto Rico.
The second phase will begin in Miami on
March 14, and on March 15 in San Diego,
while the two semifinalists of each group
will travel to the Dodgers Stadium of Los
Angeles with scheduled matches on the 21 and
22, with the finals a day later. |
