Caracas - Chairperson of Venezuela's
National Assembly Permanent Committee on
Science, Technology and Social
Communication, Manuel Villalba, ratified on
Monday that the government will continue
respecting freedom of the press.
In an interview for "Al Momento" program of
Venezolana de Television, Villalba said the
State will respect that right, but will not
permit a media dictatorship, mainly by those
TV networks devoted to 24-hour attacks
against the government.
He strongly criticized media which became
opposition parties and base their
information on lies, deception and
manipulation. A journalist must be a social
communicator; "either you are a journalist
or a political player," the legislator said.
He announced that tomorrow the members of
the Committee on Science, Technology and
Social Communication of the National
Assembly will present a proposal of reform
to the Radio and TV Social Accountability
Law, a revision to the Journalism Practice
Law. |
