Colombia, India 50 Years of Relations

Bogota - Colombia and India are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations with cultural activities taking place at the Palace of San Carlos and the Colombian Foreign Affairs Ministry on Wednesday.

The event at the Luis Lopez de Mesa Auditorium and the Simon Bolivar Hall, will have two environments: one from the Colombian culture, with a presentation of traditional folklore, and another from India, with an exhibition of Katak dancing.

During the activity, the decision of the Film Festival of Bogota to invite India as a Guest of Honor will be announced. The Film Festival of Bogota will start on October 1st to finish on October 9.

The celebration for the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations will count on the presence of people such as Colombian Foreign Affairs Vice Minister Clemencia Forero, former president Belisario Betancur, the Colombian Ambassador to India, Juan Alfredo Pinto and the Indian Ambassador to Colombia, Deepak Kishinchand Bhojwani.

Also, 18 Indian managers who visit the country in an investment mission in sectors like petrochemistry, biofuels, mining, jewelery and technologies of the information, among others, are present.

On January 19 1959, Indian Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru and Colombian President Alberto Lleras Camargo announced their decision to establish diplomatic relations between both countries.
