Buenos Aires: 113 Poverty Deaths
Buenos Aires - Some 113 people died in the streets of
Buenos Aires in 2008 and 2009, victims of the
combination of cold weather, hunger, diseases and
addictions, says a report published in an important
local daily.
Pagina/12 daily states based on a report of the NGO
organization Project 7, that Buenos Aires has
reached that number of deaths due to the structural
poverty, the unsatisfactory policies of the
government of Buenos Aires in the areas of health,
housing, food and evictions.
All that plus diseases, addictions and the low
temperatures, is the habitual environment in which
thousands of people live each day, including many
children and elderly people.
According to Project 7, there are more than 15,000
people living in the streets, 4,500 out of that
number are school age children and some 2,000 old
people, still able to work but totally abandoned. |
