Arias Compared Obama
Inauguration To Ascent
of Roman Emperor
Costa Rican president,
Oscar Arias, compared
the inauguration of
Barack Obama as
president of the United
States to the ascent of
a Roman emperor.
The crisis in the middle
east, the environment
and the financial crisis
are the biggest
challenges the new US
president faces
following assuming power
from George W. Bush,
according to Arias.
"It's the closest in the
last 2000 years to a
Roman emperor, not only
because becomes
president of the most
powerful country, but
because the people have
supported him", said
Arias.
For Arias, Obama has the
magic wand for one of
the major problems of
our time: the
environment.
"I hope to be able to
tell Obama that there is
no one else but him to
solve the serious
problem is the Middle
East" Arias said.
As to the Obama politics
in Latin America, Arias
called on a bettering of
relations between the US
and Cuba.
"It is not only to close
down Guanatamo, but go a
step further in the
relations between both
nations", Arias
concluded his statement.
The Costa Rican
president expressed that
he hopes to meet Barack
Obama in person in the
coming months.
