Death Toll in
Colombia Rebel Attack
Rises To Six
Bogota - The death toll
in a rebel attack in
southern Colombia on
Tuesday has risen to
six, which includes
three children, a
government official said
Wednesday.
The attack was conducted
by the Revolutionary
Armed Forces of Colombia
(FARC) in the
municipality of Roberto
Payan, in Narino
province. Mayor Pedro
Angulo said the
situation was already
"under control."
Previous reports said
three children and a
woman had died in the
attack on a Roberto
Payan police station.
Angulo said the FARC
threw explosives at the
policemen, which also
affected ordinary
civilians. "The victims
were people who were
going back to their
homes," he said.
The raid lasted two
hours before security
forces arrived.
Colombia's Interior and
Justice Minister Fabio
Valencia has condemned
the raid.
"The Colombian
government will inform
the international
organization of human
rights about these
criminal actions," he
said Wednesday. "The
citizens must fight
together, with the
support of justice and
the norms of civilized
