Breakthroughs
Managua - The Government
of Nicaraguan President
Daniel Ortega made
obvious breakthroughs in
two years, despite
criticism made by
opposition sectors,
according to a report
presented to Parliament.
Under fierce attacks by
liberal opposition
circles, the Sandinista
government boasts
sustained progress in
different areas in 2008,
according to the
document circulated here
on Monday.
Breakthroughs include
job-generating social
programs like the "Zero
Hunger" Food Production
Bond and advances in
free health care and
education, Ortega's
report said.
At least 19,359 women
benefited from the said
productive bond, an
increase of 48.9 percent
compared to the previous
year.
In his report to
Parliament, Ortega said
that in 2007-2008 these
and other social
programs and tourism
generated a total of
822,624 new jobs.
