Three Die, Four Injured In
Gangster-Police Clash in Guatemala
Guatemala - Three people died and four
were injured on Thursday in a clash between police officers and
gangsters in a community near Guatemala.
According to government sources, the clash broke out early on
Thursday in a town about 60 km southwest of Guatemala City, when a
group of gangsters tried to pick up the 5,000 U.S. dollars they
extorted from a merchant.
Three gangsters were shot dead in the clash, and three police
officers and the merchant were injured, a spokesman from the Civil
National Police said.
At least 90 people suspected of extorting money have been captured
so far this year in Guatemala.
