Peruvian President Urges
People to Join Reforestation Efforts
Lima - Peruvian President Alan Garcia Sunday called on his people to
take an active part in the National Reforestation Campaign to make
the country a better place.
"We must make Peru green ... each (of us) can do it in front of your
house. Go out of your house and plant a tree," Garcia said.
In a symbolic move, Garcia planted a tree in the district of Brena,
saying the campaign has benefited the environment and generated over
100,000 jobs across the country.
Garcia requested the Agriculture Ministry to plant 50,000 trees in
Costa Verde and build a boulevard to link the province of Callao
with Lima's Chorrillos district.
"Costa Verde (Green Coast) does not have anything green ... If we
start to plant trees in Costa Verde of Lima, that great boulevard
could really have that color," Garcia said.
Garcia also urged the Peruvian Environment Ministry to have more sea
water treated to support the forestation effort.
The National Reforestation Campaign led by the Agriculture Ministry
has been launched to counter the effect of climate changes and
global warming. |
