Epsy Campbell
To Announce
Today Her Decision To Challenge Or Not Solís
At noon today, Epsy Campbell, will lift the cloud of doubt as to her
possible seeking the leadership nomination for the Partido Acción
Ciudadana (PAC) in the 2010 presidential elections.
Last week, Campbell said that she will make her announcement, either
way, public on Monday at a press conference.
The 45 year old economist, if she decided to seek the nomination,
she willchallenge Ottón Solís who has led the party in the
presidential elections since its formation, coming a closing second
in 2006.
For far Solís is the only candidate to declare his intention to seek
the party leadership for 2010.
The Campbell decision to run will cause controversy for the PAC,
raising questions if the party will hold an open convention or
continue the same as in the past, holding its nomination process
behind closed doors.
Many in the PAC are pushing the party to hold open public
conventions where all can cast a vote, while die hard party members
do not want the change.
If she decides to run, Campbell will be the second woman to seek a
major partys leadership nomination and could face Laura Chinchilla
of the PLN in the 2010 race if both women are given the nod by their
parties. |
