Six People Die in Rebel
Ambush in Colombia
Bogota - At least six people, including
three policemen and three civilians, died and 10 others were injured
on Thursday in an alleged rebel attack in the northeastern town of
Convencion in Colombia, authorities said.
Preliminary reports showed the Revolutionary Armed Forces of
Colombia (FARC), the largest guerilla group in the country, was
involved in the assault, the fourth staged by guerillas so far this
year, regional police chief General Orlando Pineda said.
Local government spokesman told reporters that two gas cylinders and
a car bomb were used in the ambush against a police patrol in the
suburbs of the town.
The injured have been taken to medical centers in the city of Ocala.
