Shakes Colombia-Venezuela Border Region
Caracas - An earthquake measuring 5.1
on the Richter scale on Wednesday rocked the Colombian region of
Norte de Santander, which borders Venezuela, the seismological
authorities reported.
The Geology and Mining Institute (Ingeominas) said the earthquake
also affected cities like Bogota, Bucaramanga in the northeast and
Manizales in central east.
So far there has been no report of casualties or severe property
damages.
"To the moment we do not have reports of damages, fortunately,
despite the magnitude of 5.1 degrees and a depth of 145 kilometers,"
Ingeominas Director Mario Ballesteros said.
The epicenter was located in the municipality of Mesa de los Santos,
in the region of Santander bordering Venezuela.
The local fire departments have cautioned residents in the region to
keep on the alert for possible strong aftershocks.
