China Donates 200 Patrol Cars
To Costa Rica
The latest gnerosity by the government of China towards Costa Rica is
the donation of 200 patrol cars to the Fuerza Pública (police),
which will be deployed mainly in San Jose and Limón.
The 200 vehicles, built in China and marketed under the brand name,
Besturn, were showcased in the Parque Metropolitano La Sabana on
Friday.
Participating in the ceremony was Costa Rican president, Oscar
Arias, the Ministra de Seguridad Janina del Vecchio and China's
ambassador to Costa Rica, Wang Xiaoyuan.
Erick Lacayo Rojas, head of the Fuerza Pública, said that with the
addition of the vehicles, the Fuerza Pública now counts with 800
patrol cars for the country.
Minister Del Vecchio added that the new patrol cars can now make
possible to relocate many of the 4x4 vehicles to the more
mountainous areas instead of their use in the metropolitan area.
Since the beginning of diplomatic relations between Costa Rican and
China, the Asian nation has been extremely generous, including the
building of a new sports stadium, which construction is expected to
begin in the coming months. The new stadium, replacing the more than
80 year old stadium in La Sabana park, will be the most modern in
Central America and double capacity of the old.
Costa Rica broke diplomatic ties with the government of Taiwan in
favour of China. Taiwan has also been an excellent benefactor in
Costa Rica, donating millions of dollars in the construction of
roads and infrastructure, including the 'friendship bridge" in
Nicoya. |
