"Lesbianas por
raticos" (lesbian for a moment) is the
phrase that best describes the latest
fashion in Costa Rican women (Ticas), who
for only a moment, take to kissing other
women in the style of Britney Spears,
Madonna and Paris Hilton.
The Puerto Rican sexologist, Alessandra
Rampolla, touched on the subject during her
presentation at the Universidad de Costa
Rica (UCR) last Thursday, following
questions by the audience on what she
thought of the fashion trend.
For some women, the idea of kissing another
woman is scandalous, while for others is
fulfilling a desire to experiment. And more
and more Ticas are trying it, although there
it doesn't go beyond a kiss.
In Latin America homosexuality among men is
strongly rejected, however, among women it
is becoming fashionable.
The sexologist assures that the practice of
has become very "chic" and the wave of
lesbian experiences is growing as many women
are outside of the family's control.
Rampolla explained that with the women
leaving the home to attend university and
work, they come into contact with other
women, without having a defined sexual
orientation.
Watching famous women kissing each other on
television peaks their interest, although
not necessarily to become lesbian or have
sex with another woman.
According to Costa Rican sexologists, there
is a growing trend for Ticas choosing to
have sex with other women, from time to time
or on a more frequent basis, without giving
up their relationships with men.
