United Nations - The Venezuelan government
will broaden an aid program for Colombian
refugees with the assistance of the United
Nations, in the framework of a strategy
called Frontera Solidaria (Solidary Border),
said sources in the UN host building in New
York Friday. A communiqué from the UN High
Commissioner for Refugees Office said the
number of Colombian refugees in Venezuelan
national territory is estimated at 200,000
people.
Ligimat Perez, an official from the UN High
Commissioner for Refugees Office, said that
the Venezuelan authorities contributed to
the first stage of the program with 250,000
dollars to benefit 121 families.
The success of the initiative has motivated
its continuation this year, said Perez.
