Predicts Economic Impacts
Guatemala - Four of
the 11 sectors of the national economy will
decrease this year, and another five will
increase less than they did in 2008,
according to predictions by the Bank of
Guatemala (BANGUAT) published Thursday.
A report by BANGUAT to the Congressional
Economic Commission gives details on the
impacts of the international crisis on the
productive activity of the nation, of which
an increase is predicted in just two areas.
The document fixed the national economic
growth between 1 to 2 percent this year,
when it had reached 4 percent in 2008.
The strongest blows will be received by the
wholesale and retail trade, construction,
electric power supplies, water supplies, and
in mining and quarries. The affects on
agriculture will be seen by way of less
cultivation in products such as coffee and
banana, as well as in the sectors of cattle
breeding, hunting, forestry, and fishing.
The manufacturing industry will show a
growth of 1.4 percent, while transport,
warehousing and communications will grow 4.2
percent. Public administration will grow
thanks to the effects of the National
Emergency and Economic Recuperation Program.
