Venezuelan President Visits Iran

Tehran  - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez started Thursday an official visit to Iran, to foster bilateral links, especially in the oil sector.

Chavez's agenda here includes meeting with his Iranian peer Mahmud Ahmadineyad, and the creation of a joint mining company.

In his first words in this country, the South American statesman stressed that Iran has helped to draw the map of the Venezuelan mining industry, and the meeting with Ahmadineyad showed advances in the oil, petrochemical and gas fields. Chavez said that his country has been working with Iran's Mining Ministry for several years, and there are notable advances in the discovery of mineral fields in Venezuela.

The head of State noted that his visit is exemplary of how Venezuela and Iran fight for a pluripolar world and South-South cooperation.

Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro, Industry and Oil Minister Rafael Ramirez, Science and Technology Minister Nuris Orihuela, Basic Industry Minister Rodolfo Sanz, and Deputy Agriculture Minister Richard Canan are accompanying Chavez.

The Venezuelan president traveled to Iran after attending the South America-Arab Countries Summit in Qatar.
