CEO Pleads Guilty
A king pin in the international world of
internet sports gambling pleads guilty in a
St. Louis federal courtroom. David
Carruthers was C.E.O. of a business that
operated out of Costa Rica called
BetonSports.com.
51 year old David Carruthers pleadguilty to
a racketeering conspiracy charge. Illegal
sports gambling across state and
international borders by telephone or the
internet is a crime, says U.S. Attorney
Catherine Hanaway.
When he was arrested the company folded and
thousands of customers lost us$16 million
dollars.
The bettors had money in company accounts.
Carruthers, a native of Scotland, is to be
sentenced this fall. If the judge agrees to
a plea agreement he could be sentenced to 33
months in prison. Other defendants go on
trial in September. 2 people remain
fugitives in the case.
