Chavez Desires To See
U.S. As Brotherly
Country
CARACAS - Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez
said Friday that he
desires to see the
United States as a
"brotherly country."
Chavez made the remarks
when he signed
agreements on an
ambitious project of gas
development with eight
transnational companies
at the Miraflores
Palace, seat of the
national government.
But he said "with the
current U.S. government
(of President George W.
Bush) unfortunately,
there are not hopes of
talk."
This message will be
conveyed to the two U.S.
presidential candidates
John McCain and Barack
Obama, Chavez said.
Chavez requested U.S.
company Chevron's
representatives to take
the message to the U.S.
businessmen and
politicians that "the
only thing we expect
from the U.S. is that
they respect us."
Under the agreement,
companies from the U.S.,
Qatar, Japan, Russia,
Italy and Malaysia will
join in the Delta Caribe
Oriental Project, which
will raise its daily gas
output from 6 billion to
11.5 billion cubic feet
by 2012.
