Nongovernmental groups,
civic and party
movements and the people
in the states of
Miranda, Carabobo and
Zulia have expressed
unlimited support for
Venezuelan President
Hugo Chavez.
People expressed support
for the head of State at
Bolivar Square, in the
Capital District, where
hundreds of
demonstrators from the
United Socialist Party
of Venezuela (PSUV)
gathered on Saturday.
Over the past 72 hours,
spontaneous
demonstrations have been
held in major cities,
where Venezuelans have
ratified their support
for Chavez, after plots
to assassinate the
president were
denounced.
The people expressed
loyalty to the president
and condemned the plots
by military officers,
mainly retired ones, to
stage a coup d'état,
Camatagua Mayor Rafael
Gonzalez told local
radio.
We are enthusiastically
and peacefully
supporting the
Commander, showing the
opposition that –
despite its subversive
ideas – the people are
present and are part of
this Bolivarian
revolution successfully
led by the head of
government, Gonzalez
stressed.
Individuals involved in
a conspiracy against
President Chavez were
transferred to the
Military Court II prison
in Caracas.
The investigation will
be closed in 45 days and
the prosecutor
designated to try the
defendants is Captain
Dimas Sojo, according to
a press release
broadcast on local
television.
The Directorate of
Military Intelligence
and the Ramo Verde
police station were the
temporary prisons
designated by local
authorities, said the
report, adding that more
arrests will be made in
the next few days.

Guard Division General
Wilfredo Barroso and
Aviation Lieutenant
Colonel Ruperto
Chiquinquira were
transferred to the
Military Court prison in
Caracas.
According to a recording
broadcast on Wednesday,
they were planning a
violent military action
to overthrow Chavez,
even using F-16 planes
to attack the Miraflores
Palace. |
