 Millions of Dollars for Bank Holdups in Panama
 PANAMA - Hold-ups to bank entities in Panama left losses close to us$17 million dollars from 1987 to date for the Panamanian national financing system with affectations to 97 banking institutions.

Data coming from the integrated criminal statistics system by local newspaper La Prensa said that the biggest amount of hold-ups corresponds to 1991, with 14, followed by 1990 and 2001 with 13 each.

However, the most significant was registered in 1995, when hold-ups left losses for us$7.1 million dollars.

In the course of the year 2008, data revealed that seven banks have been robbed, with a negative remnant of us$2.6 million dollars.

The most recent hold-up was at the beginning of June against a branch of the Mega International Commercial Bank in the Free Zone of Colon, Panama.
