Nicaragua Wishes To Improve Ties With Colombia
MANAGUA - Nicaragua wishes to improve its ties with Colombia following the latest setback caused by Nicaragua's offer of asylum to several rebels, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos said Friday.

Ties between Colombia and Nicaragua were strained after the Nicaraguan government gave asylum to three guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and a Mexican female student, the only survivors of the Colombian military's attack on a FARC camp in Ecuador on March 1.

Santos said his government took advantage of a meeting between the Nicaraguan business chief Julio Jose Calero and Colombian Foreign Minister Jaime Bermudez to send goodwill messages to Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

The goodwill messages to President Uribe were ordered by Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, Santos said.
