Red Alert Continues in
Guanacaste
Although the situation
is getting back to
normal in the province
of Guanacaste after many
communities were under
water last week, a "red"
alert continues for the
area, as well for the
Pacific coastal areas of
the Puntarenas province.
The heavy rains
influenced by hurricane
Hanna left many in
Guanacaste homeless.
The Comisión Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE) -
national emergency
commission - reports
1.339 people still
living in shelters as
some 127 communities
suffered damage.
And although the weather
is improving, CNE
officials are asking
Guanacastecos not to let
their guard up and keep
an eye on the rivers,
keeping the red alert
status for the entire
province.
During the last several
days CNE workers, in
conjunction with Cruz
Roja (Red Cross) workers
have been distributing
food and fresh water to
many communities,
especially in those
areas where they have
been completely cut off
as roads and bridges
washed away.
