Famine and child
malnutrition will
increase in Latin
America because of the
international financial
crisis, particularly in
the US, admitted
executives of the
International Monetary
Fund Tuesday.
“This situation will be
especially intense in
more vulnerable regions
such as the countries in
the center of the
continent”, pointed out
IMF general director
Dominique Strauss Kahn,
a man who is blamed for
fostering the adoption
of neoliberal strategies
since 1980.
A website called
Capitales.com,
the first Central
American economic and
financial information
site for this region,
assured that Kahn
predicted a reduction of
the international
economic activity,
marked by the
disproportioned increase
of the flux of capitals
and the international
commercial exchange.
In Europe, for instance,
the economic crisis will
provoke a production
decrease.
“The consequences might
be dramatic for Central
America and Africa, even
meaning famine and child
malnutrition,” alerted
Strauss Kahn.
Kahn also predicted the
Central American
countries, now with a 10
percent of inflation or
a little more, will end
this year with 13
percent.
He also said that the
increase of the prices
of food and oil, are now
affecting more than 50
countries of the world,
especially in Central
America, Africa and East
Europe.
The prices got some
stabilization, but they
are still more expensive
