Honduras to Achieve Energy Sovereignty
TEGUCIGALPA - An adequate use of PETROCARIBE resources will allow Honduras to become energy sovereign, member of Parliament Toribio Aguilera said on Monday.

Honduras will not need to ask for a cancellation of its energy debts if PETROCARIBE profits are handled in line with the special law ruling management and investment of all resources arising from the energy cooperation deal, he added.

Aguilera said MPs agreed to assign those funds to self-sustainable projects.

The law is well structured, so there is no doubt as how to control resources from the agreement between Honduras and Venezuela, he pointed out, and added that those who misuse them will be committing a crime.

PETROCARIBE will generate 345 million dollars to the Central American nation in two years. Of that amount, 50 percent of the invoice will be paid to Venezuela, and the rest will go to a trusteeship.
