Chinese President To
Meet President Arias
Today; Tour Downtown San
Jose
The China Air 747
carrying Chinese
president, Hu Jintao,
and a delegation of
Chinese businessmen and
Communist Party
officials, touched down
at 3:25pm, at Aeropuerto
Juan Santamaría in San
Jose, under the tightest
of security measures.
The Chinese president,
arriving from
Washington, DC, came
down the stairs of the
747 by the hand of his
wife, Liu Yongqing, was
met by several dozen
people waving Chinese
flags and met by Costa
Rican Chancellor, Bruno
Stagno and the Costa
Rican ambassador to
China, Antonio Burgués
Tristán.
Later today, Hu, will
meet with Costa Rican
president, Oscar Arias,
at Casa Presidencial,
for free trade talks.
The Chinese president
and his delegation was
quickly whisked away
from the airport to the
Real Intercontinental in
Escazu.
All the highways leading
in and out of San Jose
were temporarily closed
and teams of two police
officials posted at all
the bridges along the
route.
Flights in and out of
the San Jose airport
were delayed up to an
hour.
Today, the route to Casa
Presidencial in Zapote,
from Escazu, will be
temporarily closed in
the morning between
8:30am and 9:30am. Paseo
Colon and Avenida
Segunda will also be
closed to all vehicular
traffic during the day,
while President HU
visits downtown San
Jose.
Hu and his wife are
expected to visit the
Museo Nacional and then
lunch at the Teatro
Nacional with President
Oscar before leaving for
Cuba at 4:30pm. |
