Six Months Preventive
Detention For Killer
Trio
On the pretext that the
car had mechanical
problems and would be by
in a couple of days to
pick it up, one of the
two men accused of
killing one and wounding
two Escazú casino
workers, police found
the vehicle hidden out
in a house in Palmas del
Río, in Barranca,
Puntarenas.
The vehicle had been
left in the hands of a
relative of the accused
Mena. The director of
the Organismo de
Investigación Judicial (OIJ),
Jorge Rojas, said that
police were notified of
the whereabouts of the
vehicle when they
received a call when the
family member saw the
published photos.
"They told us they knew
nothing of the matter,
just that they had
recognized the foto of
the person who left the
vehicle in their
garage", said Rojas.
OIJ investigators had
been looking for the
vehicle since Tuesday
morning following the
attack on the three
women shortly after they
left work at the Jazz
casino at the White
House hotel in Escazú.
One the women, 28 years
old Yerlín Marín
Salazar, was shot dead
and left at the side of
the road in Antonio de
Belén, while her sister,
Arelis, 28, was left for
dead near the Próspero
Fernández highway in
Escazú and co-workers,
Angie Peraza Fernández,
25, was found in the
Alto de las Palomas de
Heredia.
Rojas added that during
a raid of the home of
the woman suspect in the
case they found a .38
calibre revolver, a
firearm of great
interest to police who
believe it is the the
weapon used in the
murder. The woman
identified only by her
last name Arias, lived
in Pueblo Nuevo de Livva
Esperanza,in Pavas, and
is the girlfriend of one
of the accused men.
The interest of police
over the gun is also the
suspicion that it is the
same weapon that was
used in the brutal
murders in June and
August and that it could
confirm their suspicions
of the group.
Alarming to police was
also the find of a
several t-shirts with
the Fuerza Pública
(police) logo and
several others of the
Policía de Control de
Drogas (PCD) - drug
enforcement police.
The Juzgado de Turno
Extraordinario yesterday
imposed a six month
preventive detention for
the three. The two men
were immediately handed
over to officials of the
Adaptación Social in San
José, also known as the
san Sebastián jail, to
be transferred to a
prison while awaiting
trial. Thew woman was
sent to the Buen Pasto,
the women's prison
located in Desamparados.
What is of concern to
authorities is that the
trio may be responsible
for the murder of three
people (Yerlin Marín
Salazar, Pamela Chaves
and Rolando Orozco last
August) and the
attempted murder of two
(Arelis Marín Salaza and
Angie Peraza Fernández)
and possible attacks on
many more that have yet
to be discovered. |
