Venezuela Offers
Low-priced Food
CARACAS - The
Venezuelan network of
Food Markets (MERCAL)
will be selling 1,424
tons of basic foods at
low prices in 22 states,
it informed on Friday.
A press note by the
entity said the State
would activate 356
points in the country
for the sales, which are
part of the government's
policies to guarantee
food sovereignty and
safety in a world
context marked by the
rise in food prices.
Today, Venezuelans can
acquire low-priced basic
products, such as milk,
rice, cornmeal, sugar,
oil, beans, eggs,
chicken and beef.
With the preferential
prices of these
products, consumers can
save up to 60 percent,
as regards the private
market.
According to MERCAL
official estimates, the
initiative, created five
years ago, benefits
nearly for 11.7 million
of the over 28 million
inhabitants in the
country.
