Turrialba Volcano Activity Increases
Experts of the Obvservatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (Ovsicori) and the Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) are monitoring closely the area of the Volcán Turrialba as area residents report feeling the gas emissions emanating from the volcano getting stronger each day..

Ovsicori experts report deformation and cracking as well as damage to the area vegetation, all indicating increased volcanic activity.

The sharp impact and corrosion is not only evident in the vegetation, but also in the deterioration of some of the roofs, fences and houses close to the volcano.

The CNE is keeping a close eye on the events and has urged area residents to evacuate the area, CNE officials say that at least 60% of the residents have opted to evacuate.

Gases from the crater are reaching the observation option and has forced park officials to limit visitors to small groups and a stay of up to only 20 minutes.
