More than 25,000 Operation Miracle surgeries in Nicaragua
Cuba’s Operation Miracle specialists today surpassed the 25,000 mark in surgeries performed on Nicaraguan patients with vision problems, according to statistical reports.

Working in Sandino City, less than 20 kilometers west of the capital, Managua, the group of doctors have performed more than 5,458 cataract operations, 18,624 for pterygium, as well as treating other eye ailments such as glaucoma.

The beneficiaries of these services are, for the most part, low-income patients, in the majority individuals who are unable to pay for this type of surgery within the country’s private clinics.

Members of the Cuban Medical Brigade deployed across the country have provided a total of 1,110,264 consultations.

Among these are 2,477 surgeries for other conditions and 1,934 births, Dr. Luis Carlos Avila, leader of the group, told Prensa Latina.
