Private Sector Workers
To See Up To 11% Salary
Hike
Private sector workers
will received a salary
increase between 6.58%
and 11% for the second
half of the year,
depending on the work or
profession.
The private sector
worker unions had asked
employers for an
increase between 8.9%
and 13%, while employers
offered 6.5%.
Monday afternoon an
agreement was reached by
both sides and approved
by the Consejo Nacional
de Salarios (CNS) that
will increase the salary
of all private sector
employees 6.58% and put
˘5.000 colones extra a
month in the pockers of
domestic and non-skilled
workers and ˘4.000
colones to semi-skilled
workers, according to
Javier Gamboa, president
of the Consejo Nacional
de Salarios.
The salary increase
affects some 1.5 million
private sector employees
and will take effect on
July 1.
All employers are
required to pay their
employees the minimum
salary as set out by the
Ministerio de Trabajo,
depending on the job
classification.
The high cost of fuel,
increased cost of living
that include rising food
prices were the reason
cited for the salary
increase.
