Hotel Industry Says No
To Sex Tourism
100% of all the members
of the Cámara
Costarricense de Hoteles
(CCH) - hotel
association - said they
support the ethical
position and decisive
action to protect
children and youths from
sexual exploitation
associated with tourism.
The CCH, working with
the child welfare
organization, Fundación
Paniamor, jointly
announced a Código de
Conducta (Ethics Code)
that must be adhered to
by all members present
and future.
The Código de Conducta
is an international
initiative promoted by
Ecpat Internacional and
the Organización Mundial
de Turismo (OMT) which
has been part of the
Fundación Paniamor since
2003 and financed by the
Save the Children
foundation and other
similar sources.
The CCH currently has
295 member hotels.
Gustavo Segura,
vice-president of the
CCH, said that the
strong commitment to the
adherence of the Código
de Conducta by the
members will protect
children and adolescents
from being exploited
sexually, especially
with activities
associated with sex
tourism.
Segura added that the
hotel sector has made it
very clear in saying no
to this scourge. |
