Guatemala Nixes
Migration Laws in US
The Mesa Nacional para
las Migraciones en
Guatemala (MENAMIG)
condemned today the
strengthening of
anti-migratory policies
in American soil, from
where over 10,000
citizens have been
deported.
“Disrespect to human
rights, pursuit,
tortures and
deportations are an
everyday practice in the
US”, declared the leader
of MENAMIG, Ubaldo
Villatoro to Prensa
Latina.
He informed that many
illegal immigrants live
in permanent anxiety and
uncertainty and some
have had to move out and
lose their jobs and
belongings.
The humanitarian
organization condemned
the recent US
authorities’ orders that
demand companies to
verify the employee
migratory status before
hiring.
As part of its policy,
the US has already built
a large portion of the
border wall with Mexico
using sophisticated
techniques to detect
illegal immigrants,
which forces them to
search for more
dangerous ways to get
into that territory,
said Villatoro.
According to the MENAMIG
leader, the number of
Guatemalans dead in the
attempt to reach the
“American dream” is
close to a hundred only
during the first 5
months of this year.
MENAMIG also showed its
concern with a European
Parliament regulation to
massively deport
immigrants to the Old
Continent, which, he
said, “is an attack on
human rights”
