Brazilian Federal Police searched the home and offices of the country's mining billionaire Eike Batista on Friday for evidence of suspected fraud and tax evasion.

In an operation code-named Midas Touch, the federal police were investigating as part of a probe into alleged irregularities in the concession of an iron ore transport train in Amapa in northern Brazil.

The offices of Batista's company MMX and that of his alleged associates in Amapa have been searched by the federal police.

Police said that they have discovered strong evidence related to tax evasion by the company.

Batista, 51, owns a fortune estimated at 6.6 billion U.S. dollars in iron ore, gold, oil and gas extraction. He ranked 142ndon Forbes list of the richest men in the world.
