Careful With Calls From
Banks Asking For Credit
Card Information
The Banco Popular has
issued a warning of a
group of scamsters who
are using the telephone
to extract credit card
information and the use
it to make purchases
over the internet.
The security department
of the Popular says they
have received a number
of complaints from
customers who received
calls from alleged bank
officials requesting
credit card details.
Other banks have yet to
make any comment if
their customers have
been contacted as well.
The fraud artists are
professional in the way
they ask questions,
including requesting the
CVV2 number - the three
digit number found on
the signature line on
the back of the credit
card.
Customers are told that
the bank is suspecting
someone is using their
card fraudulently and
require the information
to reverse the charges
made to the card.
However, the information
is used to make
purchases online until
the credit limit has
been reached.
Customers of all banks
should be wary such
phone calls, never give
out any information and
report the calls to the
bank at once. If you
have doubt over a call
received place a call or
visit the bank to verify
the call and the
information request. As
an added precaution,
never ask for the number
of the bank from the
caller, look it up
yourself. |
