Tomorrow Last Day For Paying Marchamo
If you, like many of us 250.000, have yet to pay your 2009 Marchamo, tomorrow (December 31) is the last day to do so.

According to the Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS), 251.983 marchamos are still outstanding as of close of business on Monday.

Francisco Soto, head of the División Médica for the INS, said of the 1.024.726 marchamos billed, however, only 830.028 are expected to be paid.

Many owners of vehicles are not expected to pay their marchamo on time before the December 31 deadline, while other marchamos are for vehicles that are in reality still registered but not in actual use.

The fine for paying last is ˘10.000 and run the risk of having the vehicle confiscated by a Tránsito official.

In addition to the fine, the INS will also add interest charges of 3% on the mandatory insurance portion, 11.2% on the vehicle tax portion and 36% on outstanding moving fines and 24% on parking fines.
