Chavez: Crisis Has
Spared Venezuela
Caracas - The ongoing
international financial
crisis has spared
Venezuela, said
President Hugo Chavez,
who claimed his country
is getting ready to face
any future impact.
Chavez made the
statement last nigght at
the opening ceremony of
a shelter for poor
people.
According to the
Venezuelan leader,
current figures show
progress in the economy
and society, so the
challenge is to remain
untouched by the crisis.
Chavez said Venezuela
has not suffered the
impacto of the world´s
worst crisis because it
is building another type
of economy different
from Capitalism.
He warned, however, that
the situation is so
serious that it is
affecting Europe, South
America, Central
America, Asia and
Africa.
It will probably affect
us in a certain way if
it continues as it seem
to be.
In his criterion the
current crisis proves
that Capitalism is
falling down and can not
be sustained.
In Miranda Stadium, next
to the capital, Chavez
urged the population to
be ready to sail in
those stormy waters
successfully and come
out stronger from crisis
of Capitalism.
Chavez disregarded
claims by the opposition
referring to difficult
times ahead in 2009 due
to low oil prices.
There were times in 2003
and 2004 when we did not
have any oil income
because of a strike, but
we resisted, he
recalled.
In his opinion, the
nation is better
prepared today to face a
fall of income due to
the drop of oil prices.
We are ready to face the
crisis in which the
world is involved, we
are taking measures to
continue forward,
affirmed Venezuelan
President in his speech
broadcast on national
