Gregory Brenes won the
44th edition of the
international Tour of
Costa Rica on Sunday,
completing 14 stages
with a time of 36 hours,
28 minutes and 42
seconds (36:28:42).
Brenes, 20, became into
the Costa Rican Number
18 who win the Tour of
Costa Rica, with this
the country surpassed
Colombia on the number
of champions in this
tour. After Brenes'
victory on Saturday, the
last stage on Sunday was
just a procedure to get
his announced victory
with the BCR-Pizza Hut
team.
The last stage was of
127 km from the
community of Pérez Zeledón to the zone of
San Pedro, east of San
José.
During the descent
Brenes had some
problems, so Mexican
Julio Peréz took
advantage and escape
from the platoon and won
the last stage with a
time on 4:01:58.
The second place of the
general board was for
Jose Adrian Bonilla 2:39
seconds far from Brenes
and the third place was
for Cuban Arnold Alcolea
4:19 seconds far from
Brenes and Perez got the
forth place 10:12
seconds far.
Form this year the Tour
to Costa Rica is part of
the activities schedule
of the International
Cyclist Union and 10
teams from Costa Rica,
Mexico, the Dominican
Republic, Cuba and
Guatemala competed.
