 Colombia Seeks 10 Kidnapped Peasants
 Bogota - Authorities are searching for a group of alleged guerillas who kidnapped 10 people in the central Meta region of Columbia, a police official said Sunday.

Jaime Bedoya of the Meta police said the armed men, apparently from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), kidnapped 10 peasants between the age of 19 and 50 from a religious gathering Saturday.

A communique released Sunday by the FARC said it would release six hostages only if a humanitarian agreement is reached.

"We reaffirm that we will not draw back in our attempt to achieve a humanitarian agreement," the communique said.

At least 27 politicians and soldiers are kept hostage by the FARC and are considered "exchangeable" for imprisoned guerilla members. Another 700 civilians are also being held by the rebels.
